Pokot Women’s Health Rights (PWHR) is a registered Community-Based Organization (CBO) working at the grassroots level in West Pokot County, Kenya. Founded in response to the pressing challenges faced by marginalized women and girls in the region, PWHR is dedicated to advancing gender equality, Promoting Health, and uplifting the socio-economic status of the Pokot community.
Our programs focus on three core areas:
Eradicating harmful cultural practices like Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and child marriage, which remain prevalent in many parts of West Pokot.
Promoting education for girls and women, recognizing that education is key to breaking cycles of poverty and dependence.
Empowering communities economically and socially to combat poverty and inequality through vocational training, income-generating activities, and awareness campaigns.
PWHR’s work is centered in West Pokot County, which is home to the Pokot community—a pastoralist society facing unique socio-economic, cultural, and environmental challenges. Many women and girls here lack access to quality health services, face deeply entrenched gender norms, and are vulnerable to practices that undermine their rights and opportunities. By working directly with local leaders, families, schools, and community health volunteers, PWHR creates culturally sensitive solutions to build a safer, healthier, and more equitable future for all.
At Pokot Women’s Health Rights (PWHR), we are committed to transforming the lives of women and girls in West Pokot County, Kenya.
